Norton Sound Economic Development Corporation (NSEDC) represents 15 member communities and more than 8,700 people living in the Bering Strait region of Northwestern Alaska. NSEDC decided that they needed a new work environment in a different location. They contacted KPB to help them with programing their space, identify appropriate adjacencies, determine their work-flow and create a space that reflects their culture and values. KPB worked closely with Norton Sound to help them through the process identifying tenant costs as well as building owner costs. KPB also worked with the contractor to keep the project with in the budget by adjusting design elements as the project moved forward in design. KPB provided the furniture layout and worked with a local furniture vendor to provide furnishings in NSEDC’s budget. The offices along the exterior feature floor to ceiling glass walls facing the interior of the office.  This transparency along the southern face allows natural light to fill the space. An open kitchen provides two functions; a break area and a servery for the large conference room when NSEDC provides catered lunches. The large conference room is designed with floor to ceiling glass walls that promote a welcoming environment as guests arrive in the reception area. KPB provided: programming; architecture; interior design; furniture, fixtures, and equipment selection; and, construction administration.
