Turnagain Residence

Inspired by the 1964 Great Alaska Earthquake, this house is designed as if parts of it “survived” the landslide, with five portions conceptually representing original structures that withstood the quake. These anchors are finished with traditional materials, while new, contemporary sections contrast with a lighter, floating quality.

The house is oriented to maximize sunlight and views of Cook Inlet and the Alaska Range, blending historic elements with modern design. Interior spaces are crafted for an active family, with details reflecting a mix of askew features and orderly contemporary touches.
