Smythe

ARCHITECT & PROJECT MANAGER

Dale grew up in Alaska with a fascination for how people have built and lived in its extreme environments for thousands of years. That early curiosity became a lifelong pursuit of creating buildings that serve their purpose well, stand the test of time, and reflect the people who use them. He approaches each project with an eye on the full picture – how it will look and feel, how it will function, and what it will take to maintain it over its lifetime, especially in Alaska where every resource matters.

With more than 20 years of experience, Dale has helped clients get the most out of what they have by carefully balancing creativity, efficiency, and cost. His process blends design and building science with a deep understanding of risk, giving each project the best chance for long-term success. He believes that beautiful design comes from thoughtfulness, not excess, and he brings that philosophy to every stage of his work.

Away from work, Dale finds inspiration in Alaska’s wild, undeveloped spaces. He also enjoys building and repairing things, and is currently learning more about craft by restoring a house and a car both built in 1951.
